Another unique feature is the D-Rings added along the perimeter of the iSUP. These are great because you can attach lots of things with these rings. Some of the stuff you can attach are coolers, portable seats, fishing equipment, and even camping equipment.

Fusion Light Construction

The inflatable sup is made with a dual layer PVC that is a high-quality drop stitch material. Since the materials were made this way it dramatically cut the weight of the actual paddleboard. Types Of Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Boards

Best Inflatable Stand Up Paddle BoardsYou may not have known but inflatable paddle boards are broken down into categories. Some are better in other categories than others. Here, I am going to break down each category and you can see which board yours will fall into.

All-Around – This is for the people who just want to do this recreational. This is the best entry-level stand up paddleboard type because you get a lot of stability, which means less time spent worrying about landing in the water. 10-foot stand up paddleboards are the most common size. Of course, you can find plenty of short 9-foot SUPs if you need them.

Surfing – Some iSUP’s look like big surfboards that use paddles. People have been doing this for years and years and it’s just getting more and more popular. When you use a paddle out on the waves, you are able to cover a bigger area of water and you can also see the waves out farther to be ready for them. If you are looking into purchasing a surfing stand up paddle board then you can go here.

Longer stand up paddle boards are better for stability when surfing, so people who want to hit the waves should definitely go with a long stand up paddle board.

Touring – Touring boards are designed with going out on the water for long paddling distances. You can do this anywhere, on a lake, bay, or even a river. When you are touring you are trying to cover great distances so this takes more endurance and it becomes an actual workout when doing it for such long periods of time.

Racing – If you are looking to take your SUP seriously and get the most speed when out on the water, then this is the type for you. Sup racing is done all over the world and there are even competitions for it. You are going to need one with great speed!

It is generally shaped a bit longer and not as wide as your all-around flat water paddle board so that it can move through the water faster. It is also thicker than other types.

Whitewater – This is one of the scariest forms of paddle boarding. This is just my opinion but when you are out on that rough water it can get scary. Basically, you will be going down a river rough or calm and you will have to navigate through all the obstacles. You will need a fast-slim inflatable sup that can be maneuvered easily down the river.

Yoga – This type of iSUP is going to work muscles that haven’t been worked in a long time. There is something extremely calming by doing a morning a yoga routine. You will need something with a big non-slip deck pad to perform the yoga moves. There are even more stand up paddle board workouts besides just yoga. Exercising on an iSUP has taken the world by storm.

Best iSUP Yoga

FishingSup fishing has become very popular over the years. Fisherman are buying iSUPs and bringing all their gear with them. They are able to float to the middle of the lake and cast their lines out to catch some fish. Make sure you get an iSUP that can hold a lot of weight to fit all your gear.

Inflatable Paddle Board FAQ

What Is an Inflatable Paddle Board?

Just like the words suggest an iSUP is just a paddleboard that has been inflated with air instead of it being naturally a solid sup. It comes deflated and you will have to inflate it with air when you are ready to use it.

It will come with a pump to inflate it and also a gauge so you will know when it is full enough to use. Once it is done you can stick it in the water and climb on just like you would on a regular paddleboard.

How Does an Inflatable Paddle Board Work?

Inflatable sup’s work by using an air pump. In order to use your iSUP you will need to use your portable pump and pump air into it. You should have a gauge that will tell you once your it is completely full of air.

Once you are done using it all you have to do is deflate it by pushing out the air with your pump. Then you can roll it up and stick it right back into the carrying bag or into your car. Isn’t that super easy! No more tying down something to the roof of your car!

What Are Inflatable Paddle Boards Made Of?

They are made from a super strong and durable military-grade PVC material that gets stitched around the whole board. When they are made with this material they will not tear or get punctures.

Even though it has such a strong material, you are still able to fold them down so compactly. They are lightweight and easy for most people to carry. Make sure when shopping for an iSUP to look for a high-quality PVC material.

How Durable Are Inflatable Paddle Boards?

Since most of all the best inflatable paddle boards on the market are made with that heavy-duty PVC means, that they are so extremely tough and strong. This material is known for not tearing or ripping so if you are paddling over a river with some big rocks your board should be fine.

The material is also flexible and not flimsy so, if it gets poked by something more than likely it won’t puncture or get scratches like a normal fiberglass stand up paddleboard’s would. This does not mean you should poke everything, still take good care of it.

Bottom line – inflatable sup’s are way more durable than paddleboards could ever be. If you were to drop or scratch it, it would be ruined but not for an iSUP. iSUPs are perfect to use in any situation from calm waters to rough rocky waters!

How Stable Is an Inflatable Paddle Board?

Inflatable SUP reviews regularly rate the best inflatable SUPs highly for their stability. This has also earned a reputation as a stable option for beginners. Once you start using an inflatable paddle board you’re going to wonder if it’s actually a solid fiberglass one because of how stable it is!

What Size Inflatable Paddle Board Do I Need?

3 People on Inflatable SUPThe size of the paddle board really depends on a lot of different factors. Usually, the wider and longer it means it will be more stable. The thickness of the iSUP is also important because it will have more volume and be more stable.

Short – Really easy to move through the water. These are usually under nine feet. For someone who is really short of typically for kids.

Medium – These are between ten and twelve feet. This is the most common one everyone uses. This is the standard size.

Long – This is between twelve feet and fifteen feet. These are for either people who are very tall or for someone who wants to use it for touring. These are narrow so they are very fast.

How Much Weight Can an Inflatable Paddle Board Hold?

This question is answered differently for everyone, but it is very important to look at how much weight the iSUP can hold when buying one. You also need to keep in mind how much your stuff you want to take with you on your paddleboard weighs. You need to add whatever you want to bring with you to your weight and make sure the paddleboard can accommodate that.

Not only do you need to think about how much weight it can hold but also how much the iSUP weighs. They are indeed lightweight but there is a wide variety of weight ranges. When deflated some weight only fifteen pounds and some can weight up to thirty. Make sure you can handle how much it will weigh.

How to Put the Fin on the Inflatable Paddle Board?

Depending on what type of inflatable paddle board you have, you will either have one giant fin or multiple smaller fins. They are removable and when you are folding up your inflatable sup after you use it, you need to take the fins off.

Slide and Snap Method slide your fin in the fin holder backwards. Make sure your hands are holding the bottom of the fin. Once you get the fin in, it should be tight and snug into place. You need to use the holder piece to hold the fin in place when you are in the water.

Double Fang Method make sure it is all the way deflated when installing your fins.  Use the back of the fin and insert it in the knob. You need to connects the slots to the knobs so push them as much as you can until it catches. Once they are caught give them a tug to make sure they are in place and not moving around.

How to Clean Inflatable Paddle Boards?

Cleaning

One of the most important things you should do is rise off your board and equipment off with fresh water after each use. Saltwater will fade the coloring and destroy some of your equipment if not properly taken care of. Even on freshwater rivers you still need to rise everything thoroughly that way algae and mildew doesn’t start to grow.

If your board is looking really grimy, you can use a mild soap and lightly scrub everything with your hands. Then remember to rinse again to get any soap off.

UV Protectant Spray

You can buy a UV protectant spray that will prolong the look of your board. The bright colors will eventually fade out on the water. If you use this spray it will prevent anything from getting harmful UV rays. This will keep the colors looking brand new!

Drying

The last step in cleaning a paddleboard is to let it dry. You can either take a towel and dry it off yourself or you can wait for it to air dry. It is important to dry it before rolling it back up. When the board is dry, it will prevent mold from growing! We know you don’t want any mold growing!

Can You Sit on A Paddleboard?

Yes, many times I have taken a break and decided to sit on top. I even used my paddle and paddled my paddle board down the lake. Remember to sit in the same spot that your feet were comfortably standing. If you are too far forward or too far back you could tip it and fall into the water.

Depending on the weight limit and size of your board; you can bring a friend with you. Anytime you bring a friend on, only one person should be standing and the other person should be sitting down.

You can also bring your dog out on the water with you too! Just check the weight limit of the inflatable sup you are buying!

Best Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board with Dog

Is Paddle Boarding Hard?

This question can be a difficult one to answer because it all depends on your skill level of paddle boarding. In our review above of the best inflatable stand up paddle boards, you will find some great options for beginners.

Always work yourself up, practicing every time you get on the water. It will be hard at first to find the best way to balance and to pull yourself up and through the water. You will feel those sore muscles later.

Work your way up to different types of water until you master them all! Also, remember to enjoy yourself and the connection between you and the nature you are exploring! Have fun out there!

How to Get Back on A Paddleboard After Falling?

If you have fallen into the water, there are two easy steps to follow to get back on.

First, grab the center of your board and feel around for the carrying handle which should be attached to the center. Grab the handle and pull yourself up until you can reach the other side of the board with your other hand.

Second, at this point, half your body should be on. Let your legs float to the surface. Begin kicking your legs and pull the rails of the board to slide them better under your whole body.

Remember to always wear a leash around your foot especially in rougher waters, so your iSUP doesn’t go down the river without you!

How to Prepare for Paddle Boarding?

first, let’s look at all of the gear that you might need before you hit the water for the very first time with your stand-up paddleboard.

The most important thing that you will need is a SUP paddle. You’ll want to get one that is about 8 to 10 inches longer than you are for the best results. When shopping for one, pay attention to the specs as some float and others do not. Important to keep in mind when in deep water as you don’t want your paddle sinking to the bottom.

Wearing a personal flotation device is just a good safety step. Sure, you don’t see all those paddlers off the California coast wearing a SUP life jacket, but from a safety perspective, don’t you want to be covered in case the worst happens?

A leash is necessary for many paddlers. With a SUP leash, you do not have to worry about your board getting away from you if you happen to take a tumble into the water. Especially important for those surfing with their paddleboard.

Now that you know all the basic equipment you need, you need to practice setting up your equipment. It is important to practice inflating and deflating the board. You will also want to practice connecting the fin and setting up your paddle. Once you have done those things, I think you are ready to go out in the water.

How to Paddle an iSUP?

To paddle forward it is actually really easy, but if you need help, we will break it down for you so you can paddle forward easily too!

  • Grab the paddle with your non-dominate hand.
  • Place your dominant hand on the top of your paddle.
  • Keep the non-dominate arm very straight so it won’t be moving when you are paddling.
  • Pull the dominate arm towards your body.
  • Put the paddle into the water as far forward as your arm will reach.
  • Keep repeating that motion of pull the paddle past you. Try to stay in a straight line when paddling.

How to Find the Leak in My Paddle Board?

If you can’t locate the hole by running your hands across the surface looking for air then you will have to try a more challenging method. Fill your inflatable paddleboard with just a few puffs of air. Then you are going to submerge it underwater. Now look for the bubbles; wherever the bubbles are is where your leak is.
